Sub Genre Research
A sub genre dictates what specific type of film the audience is watching, when looking at a film of a certain genre.
There are four main categories of horror film: 'Psychological', 'Killer', 'Monster' and 'Paranormal'. Despite this there are still lots of films that are popular that are in the sub genres shown in the lists below them.
Our Trailer falls mainly into the genre of psychological horror and gore, with subgenres including phobia, isolation, madness, torture, extreme and slasher.
Though it seems like the trailer doesn't have a cohesive tone, we are aiming to incorporate a bricolage style and structure, where the actual tone comes from a random and varied use of genres. This is meant to make the trailer challenging for the viewer, intriguing them about the film through the use of information overload and visual beauty, as opposed to traditional cliffhanger storytelling.
